I Almost Overdid It
It can happen when you hang out with young whippersnappers and forget your body has limitations.
I honestly don’t know what to write for this post. I’ve been so overwhelmed with work that I have little time or energy to do much of anything in my spare time. I have a coworker who plays like 5-6 soccer games when he’s not working, and honestly I’m a little jealous that he has the energy to do all that and still be a top performer on the job. Being around all these young whippersnappers (almost everyone is Gen Z) has made me forget that I have limitations, too, and now my body is struggling to find its equilibrium.
I’m glad that I haven’t overdone it, though, because that would be very bad. I just toed the line. Now I’m taking a big step back.
How am I going to take a big step back? I’m still not 100% sure. I know a lot of my Italian-learning is going to have to go. I can still do the small things—like my daily Duolingo lessons—but writing and speaking activities will have to wait because they consume so much energy.
I’m also going to have to cut back on all the work I was planning for this Substack. I had planned a launch of something new and exciting for Essays on the Outskirts, but it will have to be less flashy than I wanted. But keep your eye out for that, because it will go live in November, and you’ll love what I’ve been working on behind-the-scenes.
Reminder
Just a reminder that if you are able to, now is the time to schedule your appointment for the new-and-updated Covid booster shot. I just got mine done at my pharmacy, and they even gave me a coupon for my groceries. Check to see if your vaccine location offers any perks for getting the shot. You might just get a nice treat. It’s the adult version of getting a lollipop for being brave and getting your booster.
